Second-degree AV block.
نویسنده
چکیده
Second-degree AV block includes a variety of conduction patterns of variable prognostic significance. Careful analysis of the pattern of PR and R-R intervals, the QRS axis and duration, as well as the presence or absence of structural heart disease should allow the medical director to assess the applicant's risk for life insurance.

Early and late atrioventricular block in acute inferior myocardial infarction.
In a group of 288 patients with acute inferior (diaphragmatic) myocardial infarction, second and third degree atrioventricular (AV) block was diagnosed in 37 (14%). Three of the 37 died. The AV block in the 34 survivors could be differentiated into two distinct types, namely, early and late AV block. In 15 patients, second and third degree AV block developed within 6 hours of the first signs of...
متن کاملWoldemar Mobitz and His 1924 classification of second-degree atrioventricular block.
Woldemar Mobitz, an early 20th century German internist, analyzed arrhythmias by graphing the relationship of changing atrial rates and premature beats to AV conduction. Through an astute mathematical approach, he was able to classify second-degree atrioventricular block into 2 types, subsequently referred to as Mobitz type I (Wenckebach) and Mobitz type II (Hay). Type I AV block was most often...
متن کاملConcealed AV junctional extrasystoles simulating second-degree sinoatrial block.
Concealed AV junctional extrasystoles are described which, conducted in a restrograde manner to the sinoatrial junction, interfere with sinus impulses, thus simulating a second-degree, 2:1, sinoatrial block.
متن کاملGeneral anesthesia in a patient with asymptomatic second-degree two-to-one atrioventricular block
Background The major perioperative concern in patients with second-degree atrioventricular (AV) block is the progression to complete AV block. Therefore, the prophylactic implantation of a temporary pacemaker prior to surgery is recommended, especially in symptomatic patients. However, as no quantitative preoperative risk assessment from progression to complete AV block is available, there is c...
متن کاملThe Clinical Significance of Bundle Branch Block Complicating Acute Myocardial Infarction
To provide an understanding of the clinical characteristics of patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI) and bundle branch block, experience from five centers was accumulated. Patients in whom bundle branch block first appeared after the onset of cardiogenic shock were excluded. In 432 patients, the most common types of block were left (38%) and right with left anterior fascicular block (3...
متن کاملWenckebach Block due to Hyperkalemia: A Case Report
Hyperkalemia is a commonly encountered electrolyte abnormality that can significantly alter normal cardiac conduction. Potentially lethal dysrhythmias associated with hyperkalemia include complete heart block and Mobitz Type II second-degree AV block. We report a unique case of Mobitz Type 1 second-degree atrioventricular (AV) block, known commonly as Wenckebach, due to hyperkalemia. The patien...
